Two Shoreham-Wading River High School students were honored by the Suffolk Zone Chapter of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for demonstrating what it means to be a positive influence on their peers as well as for being an outstanding health and physical education student.

Seniors and student leaders Kerrin McGuire and Patrick Shea were each selected for a Suffolk County Zone award. Both students have earned an above 90 GPA in both health and physical education classes, were lauded for their contributions to the overall positive outcomes of their health and physical education classes as well as the high school.

Kerrin and Patrick were chosen by their physical education teachers for their exceptional work during their high school careers and stand among the exceptional seniors of each Suffolk County high school who exemplify outstanding physical performance, scholastic ability and leadership qualities.

Shoreham-Wading River High School senior Yiya Hu performed a solo with the High School Symphony Orchestra at the winter concert this week.

The performance was soon after Yiya was accepted to the All-State String Orchestra this year on violin. Yiya performed Zigeunerweisen by Pablo de Sarasate.

Shoreham-Wading River High School’s inaugural badminton tournament on March 10 featured dozens of students and staff members paired up in a series of ten-minute games to determine an overall champion team. The high school gymnasium was filled with spectators cheering on the competitors.

Senior Kerrin McGuire served as the announcer, expertly handling the mic while introducing the team members, stats and winners.

The final tournament champion team was science teacher Dana Schaefer and senior Ray Hidaka and the runner-up team was English teacher Brendan Gilley and senior Charles Pedersen.

The Shoreham-Wading River varsity cheerleaders just concluded their most decorated season in program history. The team secured four championship titles this year: 2024 Suffolk County Fall Game Day Champions, 2025 Newsday Long Island Champions, 2025 Suffolk County Winter Tradition Champions and 2025 New York State Champions. This was the first time the team has won a Suffolk County Championship in the Game Day division, as well as Long Island and State Championship titles. Their third Suffolk County Championship in the traditional division brought the program record to four total county champion titles.
